Canadian House of Commons

From Encyc

Canada's Parliament is a bicameral legislature, whose lower house is the Canadian House of Commons.

Legislators are elected to Canada's House of Commons for terms of not mre than five years. Their term may end earlier for three reasons. An administration can fall, ending the terms of legislators, early, if a budget bill fails to pass. An administration falls, ending the terms of legislators, if the House passes a motion of no confidence. The Prime Minister can call for a new election at any point. In theory a Prime Minister can call for a new election to confirm they have public support for a new policy.

Unlike most modern democracies legislators in the Canadian Senate are appointed, not elected.
