Norman Conquest
The Norman Conquest was the invasion and subjugation of England, an Anglo-Saxon country, by the Normans, a group of people descended from Vikings who had established a colony in northwestern France. They were led by William the Conqueror, who defeated Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
The events of the battle were recorded in the Bayeux Tapestry, which shows Harold getting struck in the eye with an arrow.
Days prior to the Conquest, the Anglo-Saxons had repelled a Viking invasion led by Harald Hardrada.
