Allies of World War II
The Allies of World War II were an alliance of nations committed to defeating the Axis during World War II, ensuring peace in a free world. Churchill sometimes called it the "Grand Alliance".
The Allies originally were Great Britain, France, and Poland, with some minor countries. Following several catastrophic defeats, in the summer of 1940, Great Britain stood alone. The United States and the Soviet Union entered the war in 1941.
