Armenia
Armenia is a small landlocked country in the Caucasus Mountains. It was formerly part of the USSR. There is some argument about whether it is in Europe or Asia, but it is usually considered to be in Asia.
Its population is about 3.9 million, of whom a third live in the capital, Yerevan.
Armenians have lived there for thousands of years, and are different from Greeks, Turks and Slavs. They are mostly Christians. Armenia used to cover a much larger area, extending into eastern Anatolia, but during World War I over a millian Armenians were deported or killed.
