Celts

From Encyc

The Celts are a group of Indo-Europeans who occupied much of Europe before being gradually displaced. Around the time of the Roman Republic, there were Celts from Asia Minor to Ireland. Rome fought some fairly intense wars against the Celts in northern Italy and Gaul, usually calling them Gauls at the time.

Vercingetorix, the king of the Gauls, fought a losing war and surrendered to Julius Caesar. He was paraded through Rome and then strangled.

Present day there are majority Celtish areas in Brittany, Corwall, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, as well as huge diasporas over Europe, North and South America, and Australia.
