Aberyscir

From Encyc
Church of St Mary & St Cynidr

Aberyscir (or Aberysgir) is a village in Powys, Wales. It was historically part of Brecknockshire.

It is named for being at the confluence of the Afon Ysgir with the River Usk.

Historically it was a parish. The church is dedicated to St Mary & St Cynidr and possibly dates to early medieval times.[1][2]

There is a motte and bailey castle at Aberyscir, though it is missing the protective bailey, so just stands as a mound today.

It was also a civil parish/community until 1986.[3] Now it is part of Yscir.

When the parish's population was last recorded in 1971, it was 68.[4]
